Northern Ireland Ministry Assembly 2024
Questions for God’s People Worship and Witness
Haggai & Malachi
Maze Presbyterian Church - Maze Presbyterian Church, Kesh Road, Lisburn, UK
The conference is suitable for Bible readers (all of us) and - especially - Bible teachers of all kinds. We want to encourage a fresh commitment to God and his Word.We look forward to welcoming delegates from far and near. We firmly believe that when the Bible is opened and taught faithfully and relevantly the voice of God is heard in a living and powerful way. We, therefore, seek to encourage those engaged in preaching to see the expounding of Scripture as the pressing need in today's church and help equip them in the exacting work involved in such a ministry. While the assembly, therefore, is mainly for those in current full-time preaching ministries, others are welcome, especially students, interns, lay preachers and spouses of Christian workers
Over the two days of our ministry assembly we will be considering
QUESTIONS FOR GOD’S PEOPLE: WORSHIP AND WITNESS IN A DAY OF SMALL THINGS — the message of Haggai and Malachi
Our speakers are Jonty Rhodes & Jonathan Landry Cruse
When the Jewish exiles returned from Babylon those among them who remembered the splendour of Solomon’s temple saw, in the rebuilding of the new sanctuary, their dreams of the kingdom being restored to its former glory shrink in what was, for them, a day of small things.
It is not difficult to see the parallels given that we, too, live in a time where places of worship that were once full are now empty and where things are at a low ebb in both the worship and witness of the church. This is where the message of the post-exilic prophets to God’s people then have a particular relevance to God’s people now and we look forward to exploring their message and application.
Jonty Rhodes is the founding pastor of Christ Church Central (IPC) in Leeds. He is married to Georgina, and they have four girls and a boy. He trained for ministry at Oak Hill Theological College in London, and has served as associate minister at St. Alkmund’s Church in Duffield and minister at Christ Church Derby. He is the author of several books, including Covenants Made Simple, Man of Sorrows, King of Glory, and Reformed Worship.
Jonathan Landry Cruse is an author, hymnwriter, and the pastor of Community Presbyterian Church (OPC) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Jonathan is husband to Kerri Ann and they have two boys and a girl. Jonathan’s books include What Happens When We Worship, The Christian’s True Identity, and Hymns of Devotion.
